BREWING GUIDES

Aeropress

The AeroPress is a rapid, total immersion brewing process that makes coffee with low acidity, and smooth, rich flavor. The AeroPress coffee maker is commonly used in the home kitchen but it is lightweight, compact, and durable, making it ideal for use when camping, backpacking, boating, or just traveling.

What you need

To brew with an Aeropress, you need only a few things:

AeroPress Brewer
AeroPressFilter
Kettle
Burr Grinder
Kitchen Scale or Tablespoon Measure
17g Whole Bean Coffee
205° Water

Getting started

Into the mesh filter basket cap, place a paper filter. Then screw the cap onto the bottom of the aeropress.

get ready to brew

Heat your mug with hot water, to ensure that your coffee does not lose heat during the brewing process.

Then, after emptying the rinse water, place the Aeropress (filter side down) onto your mug.

measure & grind

Grind your coffee to a medium fine grind. We will use 17 grams of coffee for this recipe, and 250-270g of water. (Approx. a 1 to 16 ratio.)

If you don’t have a scale, you will use 2 1/2 tablespoons of coffee, and pour to the "4" on the side of the aeropress.

Let it bloom

Pour 205° water into the brewing chamber up to the (4) mark (220g.) being careful to evenly saturate the grounds. Stir for 10 seconds, and then wait until 45 seconds has elapsed.

brew on

Add a little more water into the brewing chamber, until you have reached the "4" mark again, or if using a scale, around 250-270 grams.

Then, remove the aeropress & mug from the scale, and place the plunger in the top of the aeropress, then pull it up slightly to create suction.

Press

After 1:30 has elapsed, begin pressing gently & evenly. Push the plunger for around 45 seconds, until you hear a “hissing” sound.

toss your filter & grounds

Remove the AeroPress from your mug. Remove the cap, and press the plunger to push the grounds out into a compost bin, and rinse your brewer with hot water.

enjoy your coffee

Because the AeroPress produces a concentrated coffee, we encourage you to taste your brew, and add hot water to taste. Enjoy!
