BREWING GUIDES

HARIO V60

The Hario V60 Brewer is a very popular pour-over brewer. The V60 creates a clean, well-balanced, and nuanced cup of coffee. This brewer is excellent for those who want full control over their coffee's extraction.

What you need

To brew with a V60, you need only a few things:

V60 Brewer & V60 Filter
Gooseneck Kettle
Burr Grinder
Kitchen Scale or Tablespoon Measure
Whole Bean Coffee
205° Water

Getting Started

Take a Hario filter, open it up, set in the V60 cone. Wet the filter with warm water to rinse the filter and preheat the brewer.

measure & grind

Grind your coffee to a medium fine grind. Use 20 grams of coffee for every 325 grams of water. (Around a 1 to 16 ratio.) or, if you don’t have a scale, use 1 rounded Tablespoon of ground coffee for every 5oz of water. Add your coffee to the V60 cone, and shake gently to level the bed of grounds.

Let it bloom

Start your timer and pour twice as much water as coffee (i.e. 20g coffee to 40g water) over the grounds. Allow the coffee to “bloom” until 45 seconds has elapsed.

brew on

After 45 seconds, add water in stages (70–100g at a time) until you reach the desired final brew weight. Concentrate the pour towards the center of the V60, working your way outwards to a centimeter from the edge of the grounds.

finish up

Once the stream slows to an occasional drip, the brew is finished. Your total brew time should be between 3 and 3.5 minutes.

toss your filter

Remove the filter and spent grounds, and discard into a compost bin, and rinse your brewer with hot water.

enjoy your coffee

Be sure to warm up your mug with hot water before pouring your coffee in. This ensures that the coffee does not lose any heat when being served.
